Pickling Two Ways with Farm to Jars workshop with Marian Bolum, certified Master Food Preserver!

This hands-on workshop will provide all the basics of water-bath canning with step by step instructions. Class includes making “quickles”refrigerator pickles and shelf a shelf stable pickles. Everyone will go home with a jar of pickles to enjoy at home.

A healthy snack and fruit infused water will be provided

Summer in a Jar! Learn how to make and fill your pantry with delicious jams that will remind you of warm summer days all year. We will start with an introductory discussion on hot water bath canning, go over the PH scale, and discuss food safety and storage. Then we get down to business…picking the right produce, slicing, measuring, and creating tasty low sugar jams. While the jars are processing enjoy tasty snacks while we discuss how to add spices, herbs and natural sweeteners to create your own unique flavors.

Class includes “hands on” step by step instructions, tasting, snacks, and fruit infused water along with a jar to take home. Class runs 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Fermented tea’s is all the craze! Whether you choose to consume it for their aid in digestion, boost of energy or just love the way they taste, this class is for you! This hands-on class includes glass jar, tea, sugar, SCOBY, starter liquid and jar coverage to start brewing your own kombucha at home. We will also discuss different flavorings.

Class includes – Kombucha starter kit, step by step “hands on” instructions, fruit infused water and a healthy snack. Class runs for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours.

Join us and learn how to make fresh pasta with this “hands-on” class and will walk you through steps on making the perfect dough every time. We will be rolling out, cutting, cooking pasta and making a fresh Marinara Sauce to enjoy in class.

Farm Roll Event

In partnership with: NJ Bike Tours

Low-intermediate to advanced riders welcome. Ages 14 and up only please! Proceeds benefit: The Garden State Community Kitchen

Experienced riders (bike marshals) will lead our rides.

Tours include: Blue Moon Acres, Terhune Orchards, Fulper Farms, Unionville Vineyards

  • 1:00pm Registration/Check-In. Refreshments, coffee, tea
  • 1:00pm: 25 miler Pre-ride Yoga stretch
  • 1:15 pm: 15 miler Pre-ride Yoga stretch
  • 1:15pm/1:30pm to 5:30pm Farm Tours and Ride. Includes support vehicles with edible reinforcements
  • 1:30pm-5:30pm: Structured and supervised on-farm activities for registrants AGED 6 AND UP. Adults with kids 5 and under also welcome REGISTRATION REQUIRED!

Does it get any better than freshly picked heirloom tomatoes with freshly made pasta? We don’t really think so.

Join Blue Moon Acres and Farm to Jars Wednesday evening, August 24th at 6pm and make your own fresh pasta to take home while learning every method of preserving the tomato. Marian Bolum, founder of Farm to Jars, will provide a demonstration on safely canning tomatoes while they are in season.  She will also discuss dehydrating, freezing and heirloom seed saving. During her discussion enjoy a serving of her own fresh pasta and marinara sauce (made with Blue Moon’s heirlooms of course!) and a Blue Moon baby leaf salad with lemon garlic dressing & optional shaved Parmesan.

Marian Bolum is a Certified Master Food Preserver. She conducts workshops and demonstrations throughout the North East and teaches people to eat seasonally all year round and greatly reduce their food waste.

This hands on workshop will cover:

  • selecting produce for pickling
  • flavoring
  • step by step instructions on safe canning procedures

Each person will make a jar of crunchy delicious pickles applying each of the three methods.
