Blue Moon Acres all started with a passion for high-quality, locally-produced food. With backgrounds in natural foods-wholesaling and farming, owners Jim and Kathy Lyons wanted to pursue a healthier, more sustainable form of agriculture. Together they realized their dreams to own and operate a farm.. When Blue Moon first opened its doors in 1992, it did so as a CSA—Community Supported Agriculture operation. The following year saw the first harvest of micro greens and the first sale to a New York City restaurant. Word spread from chef to chef, and what was once a small backyard operation soon became the most trusted name in the business. During this time, Jim and Kathy raised three children, the eldest of whom, Ashley, now heads the sales and marketing department. In 2007, with an eye towards expanding their product offering, Blue Moon Acres acquired a 63-acre Certified Organic farm on agriculturally-preserved land in Pennington, New Jersey. It was here that several years later, Blue Moon built their first farm market, in which both the farm’s Organic produce and other locally-made goods are sold. Today, the farm operates with an ever-increasing focus on sustainability via the use of bio diesel farm equipment, and geothermal heating and cooling techniques. Looking to the future, Blue Moon’s focus will remain on sustainability and soil biology, which results in disease-resistant, better-tasting, more nutrient-dense foods.

From humble beginnings as CSA farmers, Jim and Kathy have over the last 21 years won the respect of top notch chefs up and down the East Coast, along the way acquiring 63 acres of preserved farmland in Pennington, New Jersey. They are the proud parents of three lovely children—Ashley, Alissa, and Chris.

Ashley Lyons PutmanBeing BMA’s Director of Sales and Marketing means wearing many hats, and Ashley Lyons Putman wears them all with grace. Whether it’s ecommerce planning, business development, marketing, advertising, reaching out to new chefs, or serving as farm-to-farm liaison, she is front and center. When not working, she can be found in the kitchen, cooking and grilling, or pursuing her newfound passion for digital photography.

Joe has spent nearly all of his life in Bucks County and is proud to be part of the rich farming tradition here. Prior to coming to Blue Moon, he managed beverage programs at some of Bucks County’s finest dining establishments. It was then that Joe developed his appreciation for superior ingredients. He’s excited to be a part of providing quality ingredients to great chefs and the people of Bucks County. When not farming, Joe loves to spend time with his family, explore the glorious roads of Bucks County on his bicycle and listen to music.
Greg manages our sales team focusing on restaurant and retail customer bases that are rooted in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC and areas surrounding our PA and NJ farms. Having one foot on the farm and the other foot in the kitchen, Greg is able to apply his culinary background and business education to maintain the highest quality of products as well as the highest level of customer service. In his off-time, Greg likes to travel with his wife Melody and play with his dog, The Dark Knight, Bruce.
